Winter 2019 Train in Trade/ Dual Credit courses offered:
Electrical Foundation

A growing need for electricians has been identified in northwestern BC as resource development opportunities increase and as older workers begin to retire from existing positions in established industries.  Graduates find employment as electrical apprentices installing and maintaining lighting, heating control, alarm, data and commercial systems in residential, commercial and industrial settings and numerous other related fields.

This full – time, 24 – week competency based program prepares students for entry-level positions as electrical apprentices with contracting companies involved in residential, commercial and industrial construction and maintenance.  Students learn to access and utilized resource materials, follow procedures and make sound decisions while installing and maintaining electrical equipment.  The program delivers the complete theoretical and practical outcomes of the provincially accredited Level 1 Electrical Work Apprenticeship program.

  • Course cost: $1,000 deposit (made payable to School District 54)- Refunded on successful completion of course
  • Minimum admission requirements: (English 10) + (Foundations & Pre-Calculus Math 10)
  • Location: Houston (Secondary School)
  • Class time: 9am -3pm
  • Dates: Feb 4th to July 19th (No NID days, no Spring break, full days- no early dismissal)
  • Bus departs Smithers (Coast Mountain College): 8:05am- arrives in Houston 8:55am
  • Bus departs Houston Secondary School: 3:05pm- arrive in Smithers at 3:55pm
  • Course tools: approx $485, can be bought independently or through College:   Electrical tool list required   
  • Textbooks: approx $995, bought from the College: Bookstore
  • Clothing: C.S.A approved footware, eye, hearing and head protection and coveralls required.

Esthetics Foundation

Participants will gain the formal training to work in the spa industry and will attain sound knowledge around the operation of a salon business.  The program prepares students to become a qualified professional in the Esthetics Industry.  Students participate in 800 hours of full-time education that includes a combination of theoretical and practical skills.  Related theoretical content will be delivered through lectures, demonstrations and various teaching aids in the classroom and will be continuously integrated into the practical work.  Students will cover topics such as skincare, facials, hair removal, make-up design, face and body treatments and massage.  Students will also learn about the salon business, professional development and personal development.  Students will have an authentic industry experience training in a fully-equipped spa where treatments are offered to the public. Upon successful completion of this program students will be prepared to write the B.C. Beauty Council licensing examinations.

  • Morning bus departs Houston (Secondary School): 7:15am- arrives in Smithers 8:05am
  • Evening bus departs Smithers (Coast Mountain College): 3:55pm- arrives in Houston at 4:50pm
  • Course supplies: $275– Books + $1400 – Student Kit: both available on first day but payment needs to be arranged prior. Call CMTN Registrar at 1877 277 2288 or go to any Campus and pay at the office.
